The new RAV4 is expected to rely on its current platform. The hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions will return, with improvements in power and efficiency. The interior upgrades will include higher-quality materials and a larger screen for the entertainment and information system.
Everything We Know About the 2026 Toyota RAV4
The popular Toyota RAV4 continues to dominate most sales, holding the title of the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. that isn't a truck, a rare occurrence in 2024. We must describe this Japanese car as a money-maker for Toyota, which was crowned the world's top-selling car manufacturer for the fifth consecutive year in 2024.

However, Toyota has a smart plan to phase out the fifth generation and introduce an entirely new sixth generation of the RAV4. Delaying the launch of the new generation is difficult, as competitors are lining up nearby, especially with the vast number of new Chinese vehicles featuring modern designs, advanced technology, competitive prices, and official warranties from manufacturers.

Toyota is preparing to replace the current generation of its most successful vehicle, but don’t expect a complete reinvention.
2026 Toyota RAV4
When the current fifth-generation RAV4 debuted in 2018 at the New York Auto Show, it stood out with its sharper and more aggressive design, a clear departure from the softer designs of its predecessors.
Even today, it still looks fresh, leading us to expect that the 2026 Toyota RAV4, representing the sixth generation, will undergo some styling updates, with minor aerodynamic adjustments, but no major drastic changes to keep the design familiar.
Expected Design Updates
We expect the front fascia to adopt Toyota's latest design language, as seen on the 2025 Toyota Prius and 2025 Toyota Camry. This will feature sweeping daytime running lights with internal hammer-shaped sections and a honeycomb-patterned front grille.
Imaginary Digital Renderings
We’ve included digital renderings in this report imagining what the 2026 Toyota RAV4 might look like. There are also leaked preliminary sketches based on prototype models spotted in Japan, so the final product might have a more squared design with blocky elements.
Leaked Images
A recently leaked image, shown on the rear screen during a media presentation in China, is believed to show the Toyota Wildlander, a China-exclusive version of the RAV4, developed in partnership with the FAW Group and sold by GAC in the Chinese market.
The current Wildlander features distinctive front and rear fascias compared to the global RAV4. At this stage, whether the next-generation RAV4 and Wildlander will retain their design differences or converge into a unified design is unclear.
